La actual Nr. 7 del ranking ASP de Mujeres, Coco Ho, la hija del mítico Michael Ho nos concede una entrevista exclusiva desde Hawaii para CorrerOlas.com.
Aquí las preguntas que nos respondió.

1. How did you get into surfing?
1. Como empezaste a surfear?
I started when I was 8 just following my brother to the beach and playing on a boogie board.

Comencé a los 8 años siguiendo a mi hermano a la playa y jugando en una morey.

2. How did you break into the international surfing scene?
2. Cómo entraste a la escena internacional del surfing?
I think my first big event was the 2005 ISA World games at Huntington with the Hawaii team. I was 13 and got 5th!

Creo que mi primer gran evento fue en 2005 en los ISA World Games en Huntington con el equipo de Hawaii.
Tenía 13 años y quedé en 5to lugar!

3. When was the first time you left Hawaii?
3. Cuando fue la primera vez que dejaste Hawaii?
I can’t remember the first time I EVER left Hawaii but my first international trip was with Rochelle Ballard, she took me with her to the Roxy Pro on the Gold Coast when I was 13 and she was still in tour. It was the most amazing first trip of my life!

No puedo recordar la primera vez que salí de Hawaii pero mi primer viaje internacional lo hice con Rochelle Ballard, ella me llevó al Roxy Pro en el Gold Coast cuando tenía 13 y ella todavía estaba en el tour. Fue el primer viaje más chévere que puede tener en mi vida.

4. What do you miss most about home when you’re not there?
4. Que es lo que más extrañas cuando no estás en casa?
My mama, My grandma, My dog, and everything about my house!

Mi mamá, mi abuela, mi perro y todo lo de mi casa!

5. Who has helped you the most with advice and guidance in your life and career?
5. Quién te ha ayudado con recomendaciones y guías en tu vida y carrera?
My older brother Mason, my Dad, everyone from the North Shore the girls like Rochelle Ballard and Megan Abubo.

6. Any particular lesson stand out?
6. Alguna cosa aprendida que resaltar?
Dont think about home on the road, just enjoy!

No pensar en mi hogar en los viajes, solo disfrutar!

7. What’s the best thing about surfing?
7. Qué es lo mejor del surfing?
Traveling and doing something you love with friends and family
Viajar y hacer algo que amas con amigos y familia

8. What’s the most scared you’ve been while surfing?
8. Cual es el susto más grande que te has llevado surfeando?
Anytime it’s big and my dads not around..haha!

Siempre que está grande y mi papá no está cerca..jajaja!

9. How do you kill time during off days at contests?
9. Cómo matas el tiempo cuando no estás compitiendo?
I try to go somewhere else to surf if that’s not possible do something productive like look around the city’s like a tourist

Trato de ir a otra parte a surfear si eso no fuese posible hago algo productivo como pasear por la ciudad como una turista

10. What kind of training do you do?
10. Qué tipo de entrenamiento haces?
I go to the gym at Vland when I am home just a couple days a week. Other than that I like playing tennis and ill go running if im reaaallly bored!

Voy al gimnasio en Vland cuando estoy en casa un par de veces por semana. Otra cosa que me gusta es jugar tenis y voy a correr realmente cuando estoy reaaaaalmente aburrida!

11. If you hadn’t started surfing, what other sport would you like to be good at?
11. Si no hubieses empezado a surfear, en que otro deporte hubieses destacado?
Im not good, but I love tennis!

No soy buena, pero amo el tenis!

12. How do you view contests vs. filming trips? Which is more important to you?
12. Como ves competir vs. viajes de filmación? Qué es más importante para ti?
For women you are much better off contests. Im fortunate enough to be a part of a big project Nike 6.0 is doing with me and the girls team. We are making a movie that will be out next march!

Para las mujeres es mejor fuera de los campeonatos. Yo soy muy afortunada de ser parte de un proyecto grande llamado Nike 6.0 en el que participo con las chicas del equipo. Estamos haciendo una película que se estrenará en marzo próximo.

13. What about your favorite filming trip?
13. Cúal ha sido tu viaje de filmación favorito?
Any Nike 6.0 trip the past year has been really fun!

14. How much of a responsibility do you feel you have to be a role model to Hawaiians?
14. Cuanta responsabilidad sientes al ser un modelo para los jovenes hawaiianos?
Being Hawaiian there is a sense of pride and a big deal to be respectful to our culture by showing aloha around the world.

Ser hawaiiana es un sentimiento de orgullo y una gran responsabilidad ser respetuosa con nuestra cultura y mostrar aloha por todo el mundo.

15. You “work” where most people vacation. Where do you go for vacation?
15. Tu “trabajas” en lugares donde las personas vacacionan. A dónde vas de vacaciones?
True! Umm… I’ve actually never vacationed but I really want to go to New York or Paris soon!

Verdad! Umm..creo que en realidad nunca he tomado vacaciones pero me gustaría ir a New York o Paris pronto.

16. What accomplishment or aspect of your life are you most proud of?
16. Cuál crees que es tu logro o aspecto de tu vida de la que te sientes más orgullosa?
Living the life I do, being a part of the World Tour already, and being from Hawaii and still having all the support I do around the world, I am really thankful!

Vivir la vida que vivo, ser parte del Tour Mundial, ser de Hawaii y recibir todo el apoyo al rededor del mundo, estoy muy agradecida!

17. What surfers do you respect and why?
17. A cuál de los surfers tu respetas más y por qué?
Steph Gilmore- she knows how to enjoy and rips! My brother Mason- he is always positive and making me laugh! My dad- he’s 53 and surfs more than me and my brother!

Steph Gilmore-sabe como disfrutar y la rompe! A mi hermano Mason-el es siempre positivo y me hace reir! Mi papá- el tiene 53 y surfea más que yo y mi hermano.

18. What about outside of surfing?
18. Y a quién a parte del mundo del surfing?
Beyonce. She is beyond beautiful, dances amazing, sings phenominal, and seems SOO nice and humble!!!!

Beyonce. Ella es realmente linda, baila increible, canta fenomenal, y parece TAN agradable y modesta!!!!

19. What’s next in the ASP circuit?
19. Qué es lo que viene en el circuito ASP?
I go to Brazil tomorrow for 2 QS’ then Portugal and Puerto Rico are WT events in October

Voy a Brasil mañana para 2 QS´s después a Portugal y Puerto Rico para los eventos del World Tour en octubre

20. You were recently in Peru for the event in San Bartolo, which you think of the waves, people?
20. Estuviste recientemente en Perú para el evento en San Bartolo, que piensas de las olas, de la gente?
Peru is really fun. The waves were really fun in Punta Hermosa. I love North too (Mancora and Lobitos). The people are really great, I was lucky and stayed with the Mulanovich’s and had such a great time.

Perú es realmente divertido. Las olas son realmente divertidas en Punta Hermosa. Amo también el norte (Máncora y Lobitos). Las personas son realmente buenas, yo fui afortunada y me quedé con los Mulanovich y pasé unos días muy divertidos.

21. and food?
21. y la comida?
I love sublimes!!!! hahaha.. and that drink I think its called Chicha? The ladies at the Mulanovich’s made it everyday SOOO good!

Amo los sublimes!!!! jajajajaj…y esa bebida que creo se llama chicha? Las chicas en la casa de los Mulanovich la preparaban todos los días MUUUUY rica!

22. Something that you would like to tell all your fans in Peru?
22. Algo que quieras decirles a tus fans en el Perú?
